"Cold War"<\/b>. One of the main ideological conflicts of the 20th century between the two superpowers – the USA and the USSR. The mutual hatred of the capitalist and communist countries gave rise to a real hunt for \u201cwitches\u201d: ideological propaganda, mass espionage, political games, etc. D. It was a time of paranoia and fear of tomorrow’s day, for everything could end with a nuclear war.<\/p>\n

However, despite all the stresses and conflicts, the Cold War has also become an incentive for scientific and technological achievements. Arms race advanced the progress of mankind for many years: computers, Internet, etc. D. Also, as a counterweight to the growth of conflicts, organizations were created that tried to preserve the world with legal means.<\/p>\n

Culture also did not lag behind. A huge number of works created about this ambiguous period. And today I want to talk about a person who decided to create his own alternative, \u201ccold war\u201d and later turn a whole universe from this. His name is Tom Clansy.<\/p>\n

Patriotism is in letters<\/h2>\n

Thomas Leo Clans Jr. was born on April 12, 1947 in a Catholic family. Tom burned with two things: literature and military affairs, or rather engineering. But initially it was not set with them. After graduating from college in 1969, the future writer tried to sign up for the army, but due to myopia, he had to return to the citizen. I also had to wait with literature: to just live for a while, he worked in a small business that belonged to the family of the first wife.<\/p>\n

But in 1982 everything changed. It was this year that Tom began work on his first and most important novel in his career – \u201cHunt for Red October\u201d \u201d. From a young age, Clansy was an avid reader of naval history and marine research, and once having read a note in the newspaper about how the Sailor\u2019s uprising on the Soviet ship happened on the Soviet ship, I decided to write a detective on this topic. But they are not a note: the author talked a lot with former submariners and read special books on this topic. Also in writing, the publisher helped him-the US Naval Institute, which was first decided to publish a work of art.<\/p>\n

\u201cRed Oktyabrm Hunt\u201d burst into store shelves in 1984. The novel became a bestseller and was translated into fourteen languages. In Russia, the book was published only in 1991 and the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation acted as the publisher. The reason for this delay is simple: the author openly expressed discontent about the Soviet Union.<\/p>\n

The second "Potemkin"<\/h2>\n

As I wrote above, the progenitor of the Red October is a \u201cguard\u201d – a Soviet water surface designed to carry out a sentinel service, the protection of large ships, transports and landing ships from attacks of submarines, torpedo boats and aviation of the enemy at the sea crossing and when parking on open raids.<\/p>\n

The instigator of the uprising was the political officer Valery Sablin. Disappointed in the party\u2019s policy, Valery decided to start a new revolution. The plan was like this: to remove the disagreements, to swim from Riga to Leningrad (modern. St. Petersburg) through neutral waters and make a statement on television. Having locked the captain and sailors who did not agree with the rebellion, the political officer began to fulfill the plan.<\/p>\n

The result was deplorable. Having learned about betrayal, the Ministry of Defense of the USSR raised the nearest sea and air forces with an order to suppress the uprising. When the planes in the first entrance hit the ship, the sailors panicked and freed the captain and disagreed. Sablin and rebels stopped and detained. All this happened on November 8\u20139, 1975.<\/p>\n

Law processes have been going on for almost a year. On August 3, 1976, Sablin was sentenced to death, assistant Alexander Shein – to 8 years in prison, and the rest (even those who were against the rebellion) received penalties and were fired from the service.<\/p>\n

One boat against the Soviet Union<\/h2>\n

There were three ways in the fleet for a successful career. The officer could become a political officer and turn into a paria, despised by the rest. Could become a skilled navigator and count on the place of the submarine commander. Finally, he could acquire a technical specialty, which promised the situation and considerable money, but in this case the command of the ship slipped away from it. The fate of the "guard" turned out to be deplorable, but for the "Red October" everything was just beginning. Clancy redrawed many details: changed the nationality and name of the protagonist, the surface warship turned into an experimental nuclear submarine, and the attempt of a coup d’etat was replaced by the usual desertion with a request of a political asylum.<\/p>\n

The captain of the first rank of the USSR Navy was a respected man in the army and in the party, which trained a huge number of officers and tested many experimental samples of marine equipment. <\/p>\n

When the construction of the first atomic submarines began in the Soviet Union, Ramius was in shipyards and began to master the design and construction methods of steel sharks. Soon he was already known as a demanding and demanding receiver, delving into every trifle.<\/p>\n

If Mark was fine in marriage, then the family life went downhill. At thirty, the captain married Natalia, the daughter of a member of the Central Committee. The girl did not have good health: constant diseases and miscarriages during childbirth literally killed her. And at one point she died, while Mark was at sea. Death came from an unsuccessful operation to remove the appendix (the surgeon was drunk) and from taking cheap antibiotics.<\/p>\n

Natalya Bogdanovna Ramius died at the hand of the surgeon, who was drunk during duty – in the navy he would have fallen under a military tribunal. But here Mark could not even attract him to court, because the surgeon was also the son of a senior party official and had powerful patrons. Natalia\u2019s life could save medicines, but imported funds were not enough, and the Soviet ones were unreliable. No one paid for her death – neither doctors nor pharmacologists. This thought tirelessly pounded in his brain, nourishing his rage, until he made the decision, which would force the state to pay for the failed.<\/p>\n

Anger boiled inside Ramius. Within a few weeks after his wife\u2019s funeral, he developed a plan of escape from the Soviet Union: to become the captain of the \u201cRed October\u201d, to gather faithful officers, prepare a false order for the team and during the exercises to make an attempt to escape in the United States. The officers who were \u201cadopted\u201d by Mark and Natalia also kept a grudge against the party: for misconduct in the past, for harsh statements on higher personalities and for belonging to a certain race, the path to the party elite was ordered. There is only one thing left – to quit the country and leave with the captain.<\/p>\n

While the October team was finishing preparations, the submarine was found in Britain. Given the degree of threat, the British government is asking for one analyst to go to the CIA for an additional analysis of the data obtained.<\/p>\n

Jack Ryan is a through character of almost all the novels of Tom Klence’s work: CIA analyst, and even earlier-professor of the Naval Academy, an exemplary family man. When Britain and the United States learned about \u201cRed October, it was he who was the first to suggest the theory of Ramius desertion and the plan of capture of the submarine.<\/p>\n

There was nothing noticeable in it either: the height is slightly higher than six feet, slightly half-dead from the lack of movement due to the vagaries of English weather. Of course, the book has other, less interesting characters: Vice Admiral James Grire, Acoustics Ronald Jones Jones, Professor Skip Tyler and others. Such a number of characters in the book is interrupted by a technical description of the equipment of the military, which is why the author, at the request of the publishing house, had to reduce 100 pages of text.<\/p>\n

In the next compartment, located closer to the stern, a heat exchanger and a steam generator, alternating current turbogenerators and auxiliary equipment were placed. The main turbines were in the neighboring compartment, which was now inactive because the caterpillar worked on an electric drive. In any case, the pairs that brought them into rotation was clean, since radioactivity was allowed only in the inner circuit. A refrigerant carrier in itself a short, but dangerous radioactivity, has never turned into steam. Steam was formed in the external cycle of irired water. Two water supply systems met, but never mixed inside the heat exchanger, which was the most likely place of leakage of the refrigerant due to numerous joints and valves.<\/p>\n

Among unusual chips, you can also highlight the speed of action and branching of the storyline. The event takes place in 18 days, and while you read about sabotage on Red October, in the next block you will learn about the events on the British aircraft carrier, in the White House, etc. D. The author tried to make such a pile harmonious, but the questions \u201cwhat is happening now at all?\u00bbYou will sometimes swim.<\/p>\n

For me personally, the book turned out to be "not for everyone". The volume and number of additional plot and technical descriptions can simply drive the unprepared reader crazy. I withstood all this and got some pleasure. This is a solid detective with atypical (at the time of writing) by heroes and \u201cevil Russians\u201d as villains.<\/p>\n

The Hunt is ON<\/h2>\n

The specificity of the book was a strong obstacle to film adaptation. Despite the fact that the book became a bestseller, not a single Hollywood studio became interested in its content. But the producer Mace Neifeld decided to try to film "Hunting". Throughout the year, the producer was able to agree with Paramount Pictures and with the US Navy for reservation resolution.<\/p>\n

However, even after receiving a resolution for shooting, new problems arose: none of the famous directors wanted to take up the film adaptation. But the pierce for some time still managed to find the director-John Macternan. He was interested in the project and is sure that he could convey the whole depth and complexity of the book on the screen. And one could believe it, t. To. In the filmography of the director there were already two cult militants about heroes in a difficult situation: \u201cpredator\u201d with Arnold Shvartznegger and \u201cstrong nut\u201d with Bruce Willis.<\/p>\n

The casting was also not from the lungs. Several interesting candidates were taken for the role of Jack Ryan: Kevin Costner (Water World), Harrison Ford and Alec Baldwin. Costner refused for the sake of the director\u2019s place in another film, and Ford will later replace Baldwin in the next two films. Two candidates were already planned for Mark Ramius: Klaus Maria Brandauer (\u201cNever say\u201c never \u201d\u201d) and Sean Connery. There was a small incident with the show: an incomplete script (the first page of which speaks of the time of the event) was sent to him by fax, and when he read it, he refused to participate. James Erl Jones – Darth Vader’s voice for James Grire was also for the role of James Grire.<\/p>\n

The shooting took a year. During this time, the actors used the whole experience that they had during service in the army, and visited a real submarine. A huge number of real military as statists and specialists also participated in the shooting. Special effects were made using layouts and computer graphics, which at that time was in its infancy. For example: the layout of the Red October building was never in the water. For the picture, only the left side of the submarine was made in detail, and its right side in the film was shown simply by turning the frame frame.<\/p>\n

"October" inside is more like a spaceship from the "star path", but I like.<\/p>\n

"Hunting" was released in 1990 and gathered a decent cash desk, and at Oscar took the statuette for the installation of sound. Obviously, people were interested in looking at the adventures of Jack Ryan and the following books of Klancy were sent to the development. But this is a completely different story ..<\/p>\n

The film has long become a classic of militants and loved by many. Including the author of the text. A bunch of steep actors, interesting and unusual decorations (remember good films about submarines, personally do not come to my mind), and of course a solid cranberries. Strict recommendation for viewing.<\/p>\n

It was a very interesting experience. I never read the books of such a genre and thought that everything would be a little worse. But in the end, I am glad that I met this genre through her ancestor.<\/p>\n
